Kitchen Remodel Part 1

It seems as thought since we bought this house, almost 13 years ago, we have been working on this house. And a couple of months ago Hubby asked which room I want to do next. I replied, “Selfishly, the kitchen!” He was flabbergasted that I would even suggest the kitchen, especially since we want to add a 2nd bathroom, and we need to do some minor work in the bedrooms. With adding a bathroom we would have to move the utility room, which would mean adding a room to the house.

Fast forward a couple for months, I am out of town and hubby has to cook in the kitchen for the kiddos. Being as this is a rare occasion, me being away and hubby cooking, he was surprised with how dysfunctional our kitchen is. I came home and he started complaining explaining to me about why our kitchen doesn’t work. There is no counter space, it is to hot, on and on. Needless to say the kitchen was the next project we started!

Did I forget to tell you that the roof had started leaking??

That helped to start this project off to quick start!

IMG_1007This is what happens when your roof leaks!

IMG_1021IMG_1026  So we decided to take out the wall that divided the kitchen and dining room.

And ended up with this:IMG_1031

WOW, look how big it looks!!!

Still a work in progress, but we no longer have a leaky roof, but the insulation and drywalls not up either. Between hubby working full time, going to school full time there isn’t much time left over. But we enjoy working together and hopefully my Christmas present will be a completed Kitchen!!

Do you have any home improvements going on? Would love to hear about them.

Wishing you many Blessings Rainbow

Chaos!!

So it’s been a bit quite around here! Did you miss me?? Well I missed you all! Things around here got a bit crazy and yeah maybe I should have blogged about it as it was happening but really my head is just now clearing the water.

So first thing, I wasn’t able to attend the mission’s trip to Australia and that was one of the main reason everything got crazy around here. As the date for me grew closer more and more pilled up around here. Our AC went out! No AC in Florida in the month of July is NOT advisable. Hubby’s tires went flat and needed to be replaced. The roof in the kitchen started leaking, (more about that in another post). And the start of CC (another post also) was looming in the background.

I remember sitting in my darkened bedroom, praying for answers and I remembered that God is not a God of confusion and there was a ton of confusion going on in my life. It was a hard decision to make about not going to Australia. I kept thinking: I got this, I can do this, if I juggle this and that, it will all work out! Needless to say once I faced the facts I realized how much I had dropped the ball. This blog wasn’t the only thing that suffered. But over that last couple of weeks I have plugged away at getting everything back on track.

A Hot Mess

As I sit here making and tasting this sinfully gooey mess that I am gonna just call “A Hot Mess”, I am helping a friend find a healthy recipe for the kiddos at our church. Funny thing is normally we eat very healthy and tend to stay away from sugary desserts. And with Leddybug being Wheat Free these desserts are far and few in between!!

a hotmess pin

So I saw this recipe floating around Facebook and thought I need to try this!!! But then I got discouraged because of the comments. Well I went out and I bought the items needed and then we decided to tear out the kitchen. So the thought of trying a new recipe went right out the door. After a week of having no stove and only having 1 hotplate, a couple of crock pots, a microwave and a electric skillet I decided, let throw caution to the wind and make a dessert tonight!

I followed the recipe to the letter and after 2 hours of cooking on High; I smelt a burning smell. I ran to the counter and realized that the edges were burning but the middle was raw. I didn’t want to throw it all out so I went to cabinet and grabbed my ramekins and scooped some of the batter into them. I microwave them for 45 seconds and they came out as a gooey cakey delight!!

INGREDIENTS
1 box Betty Crocker® fudge brownie mix
1/2 cup butter, melted
4 eggs
1 pouch Betty Crocker® chocolate chip cookie mix
Vanilla ice cream, as desired

Directions:

1. Spray 4 1/2-quart slow cooker with baking spray with flour.

2. In large bowl, mix brownie mix with 1/4 cup of the melted butter and 2 of the eggs.

3. In another large bowl, mix chocolate chip cookie mix, remaining 1/4 cup melted butter and remaining 2 eggs.

4. Drop alternate spoonfuls of the brownie and chocolate chip cookie batters into slow cooker.

5. Cover; cook on High heat setting 2 to 3 hours or until cake is set in center. To serve, spoon cake from slow cooker, and top with scoops of ice cream.

*I melted the whole stick of butter in the microwave and divided it between 2 bowls added 2 eggs to each bowl then put the brownie mix in 1 bowl and the cookie mix in the other bowl. Mixed it well. Then I dropped spoonfuls of each  batter into the crock pot. After 2 hours it was a gooey mess and I then transferred the batter to ramekins and microwave each ramekin for 45 seconds.*

What desserts have you been cooking up??? What are you cooking up??

Check out what others are cooking up this week at Home to 4 Kiddos!!

4 Weeks To Go

Dear Friends and Family,

If you haven’t heard I was accepted to be part of INCM, International Network of Children’s Ministry’s GO Program. We will be traveling to Australia and working alongside KidShaper. The mission of INCM is to train, motivate, encourage, network and resource Christian leaders who minister to children. I will be serving the local children’s ministry leaders in Australia. We will be traveling August 19-26 2013. The total expense for my trip is $3500 and that includes, travel, food and lodging.

I have been part of children’s ministry for the last 4 years, and it have been the most wonderful experience. My job is to spend time with some of the great kids I have ever had the privilege to meet. I get the special job of talking to them about Jesus Christ. I have been blessed with a strong group of ladies that have helped and encouraged me during this journey in children’s ministry, but there are others that are not so lucky.

There are kids that don’t know Jesus Christ, and there are leaders out there that don’t know how to tell the kids about Jesus. INCM has developed the 5 initiatives:

1. Impart God’s truth to this generation

2. Provide a safe and relevant environment

3. Communicate with families

4. Network with a community of leaders

5. Pray for the international children’s ministry community.

I have taken an oath to impart these 5 initiatives. Together with INCM I will help to set up and run trainings with local churches. I am super excited to have this opportunity to go and encourage others in their journey of children’s ministry.

My needs for this trip is prayer. This program is a brand new program and we will need lots of prayer to accomplish what the Lord wants us to do. My other need is financial, I have raised about half of the money needed for my trip.

If you can make a donation, there are 2 options:

     1. Make a Check out to Nikki Fillie

                 a. Mail it to: 4001 Lakewood Rd Sebring, Fl 33875

     2. Use your Credit/Debit Card on Paypal

                a. Go to www.paypal.com

                b. Click on Personal

                c. Click on Transfer: Send Someone Money

                d. Enter your email address

                e. Enter my email address:

                f. Enter the dollar amount & click on Continue

                g. If you don’t have an account you will create one

                h. Put in your CC info (completely safe) and send

It has been extremely difficult for me to step out of my comfort zone and ask others for help. So my 1st lesson has been:

“It takes humility;

to realize that God cares,

to admit my need,

and to let others in His family help!!”

Thank you for your help and support in this new and exciting venture that that Lord had placed before me!!

Australia Mission Trip

Dear Friends,

Recently, I was accepted to be part of INCM, International Network of Children’s Ministry’s GO Program. We will be traveling to Australia and working alongside KidShaper. The mission of INCM is to train, motivate, encourage, network and resource Christian leaders who minister to children. I will be serving the local children’s ministry leaders in Australia. We will be traveling August 19-26 2013.

My first lesson in missions is trusting in God to provide the necessary finances. The total expense for my trip is $3500 and that includes, travel, food and lodging. I ask that you pray for me to be able to meet this financial need by July 22th.

Would you be willing to commit to praying for me before and during this trip? Would you like to make a contribution towards my expenses?

I am eagerly looking forward to this great opportunity to serve others and be able to encourage, motivate and to fill my commitment to the 5 initiatives INCM has developed.

1. Impart God’s truth to this generation

2. Provide a safe and relevant environment

3. Communicate with families

4. Network with a community of leaders

5. Pray for the international children’s ministry community.

Thank you for your support. I will be sure to share with you my experiences in Australia when I return.
