Our Journey

Most homeschoolers can turn any activity into school. And if you’re like me, sometimes we have to force remind ourselves not to turn everything into a lesson, sometimes things can just be fun! But Schooling in the Kitchen, there can be so many subjects: Math, Science, Reading, Following Directions, History, and Geography to name a few.

When I first sat down to write about Schooling in the Kitchen I thought, Ok I’m going to post a recipe, show how the kiddos made it, and give you a run down of what lesson could have been taught with that recipe. But finding the right recipe has been hard, there are thousands of recipes out there. Check out our Cookbook for a few recipes we have already shared.

We don’t follow any particular curriculum for in the Kitchen, we teach the girls (and ourselves) about which food will keep us healthy. We have been amazed at some of the discoveries that we made concerning what is in our foods. The more we found out the more we strive to eliminate them from our diets. Little by little we also found how different spices and herbs help to keep us healthy. We are all about eating good tasty foods, just without all the processed crud and chemicals. We even took healthy eating one step further and decided to grow our veggies and compost our scraps.

While incorporating more whole foods into our diet we have also learned to make our foot print on this Earth smaller. Teaching the girls how to take care of their body and the planet has become and amazing learning experience that has turned to a great way to live!
