College Common Sense – Review

Who has wondered about paying for college??? Show of hands…everyone’s hands should be in the air!! Okay so if you are anything like me you probably started thinking about it while you were pregnant. So when I was offered the opportunity to review Going to College and Paying for it Online Video and Workbook from College Common Sense I was jumping for joy!

With hubby working on his Bachelor’s degree and me thinking about going back to school and 2 kiddos who one day will get to the age of going to college, when I think of the cost I can feel the hives popping out. Thankfully Denise Ames the creator and author of College Common Sense has 10 years of experience working with college admissions and financial aid process to help us along.

You might be thinking, I have plenty of time and you know, I thought the same thing until I started asking the girls about future plans. Leann wants to go into the medical field and Amber well she wants to be a performer. Have you ever checked on the prices of what it cost for medical school??? Not to mention Performance Arts schools!!

The first thing I did was signed up for the free lesson plans and free newsletter. Then I started checking out the Going to College and Paying for it Online Video and Workbook (which cost $25.00 for 12 month log-in access or you can order the DVD for $50 + $5 Shipping & Handling). This program consist of 6 videos that last about 20 mins each that includes a PDF worksheet. We started our All About Me Journals and the Scholarship Binder.

Video 1 – The Big Picture

Video 2 – How Financial Aid Works

Video 3 – All About the Free Money

Video 4 – The System That Works

Video 5 – You in the Process

Video 6 – Pull It All Together

Age range: All ages, but if you have younger kids I would hold off having them watch the videos. If you have High Schoolers, I would highly recommend this program. If you have a Middle Schooler, this is a great program to get them thinking on the future and helps them take charge of their future choices and if you have an Elementary student, this is a great way to open the discuss of college. The worksheets and the videos might be a bit much and are geared more for the parents. I adapted the worksheets for my 7 year old (because she needs to do the same thing as her older sister).

There are many opportunities out there so that your children don’t have start with a mountain of debt. Let Denise guide you through this somewhat scary process. And don’t put it off because you think you have plenty of time, cause before you know it you will be filling out applications and pulling your hair out wondering where the money is coming from to pay for it all.
